The Overstock Office building located in Midvale, Utah also called the “Peace Coliseum” is home to Overstock’s corporate headquarters. This beautiful campus includes a 1,000 stall 4-level parking structure, an on-site childcare facility, and a greenhouse providing fresh produce for employees. This site is also located adjacent to a Trax Station encouraging employees to utilize public transportation.
The Overstock office headquarters is located in the View 72 Corporate Center developed by Gardner Company. This site presented many unique challenges as the larger project site was used by Sharon Steel as a smelter facility for over 80-years, requiring the site to be remediated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). When the EPA cleared the site for development, they worked with Midvale City and the State Department of Environmental Quality to establish Environmental Constraints outlining requirements for site improvements.
Ensign Engineering was asked to partner with the project designers and developers to ensure that the space would meet Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards and the business’ functional needs.
Ensign is a strong proponent for sustainable spaces and was eager to join the project, aiding them in their EPA endeavors. Ensign worked closely with the design team to find ways to incorporate EPA design requirements, while still ensuring that the site felt and functioned like a modern office building. Ensign’s contribution included providing lined detention systems to eliminate potential groundwater infiltration, utilizing fused high-density polyethylene pipe materials to eliminate potential leaks at joints, and incorporating clean fill in all landscape areas.
When the project was finished Overstock’s new headquarters were beautiful, functional, and EPA approved. The Ensign team was honored to be able to offer their services to the project and help create a workplace that was environmentally conscious.
